SMS Engineering is an award-winning, mid-sized consulting engineering firm based in Winnipeg with projects throughout Manitoba and Canada. Founded in 1965, our 80-member team provides full engineering design services to clients in the healthcare, education, transportation, commercial and industrial sectors of the building industry. Current projects include Red River College Innovation Centre, God’s Lake Nursing Station and the Bio Diversity Gardens at Assiniboine Park.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Contract Administrator to support our current and upcoming projects. Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated and able to work independently. As a key member of our team, you will:

  • Prepare and issue all contract documents, and coordinate, collect, assemble, and review all contract change documents from multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Review construction site for general conformance of contract documents and building codes, Provide electrical observation reports to be distributed to the construction team.
  • Review construction progress through the project including coordination of certificates of payment and electrical certification letters.
  • Chair start-up meetings when SMS is the prime consultant and attend regular construction meetings with contractors and owners as an SMS representative.
  • Be the main contact to the Prime consultant/ owner during the construction process.
  • Exercise independent judgment and analysis of significant issues and find a resolution.
  • Collaborate with SMS design team, sub-consultants, and stakeholders as required.
  • Min in 5-7 years experience as a journeyman electrician.
  • 2-3 years of related experience in contract administration, project supervisor or project management.
  • Understanding of the construction industry - development, contracting & consultant services
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Excel & Word
  • Strong knowledge of the electrical code, provincial lien act and Standard contract conditions – CCDC
  • AutoCAD experience and knowledge of Revit is preferred but not required.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
